Is this possible to port to another computer?

I realize that I cannot export to a text file, but where is the data stored?  Can I port the whole database to another computer and use it as such?

Thanks

Hi!

I am working on allowing to export data to a text file, which is one of the main features of version 1.1. Right now, data is saved in a SQL Server database, so it is possible to move it to another computer, but it is a very complex process if you do not have knowledge about SQL Server :( That is the main reason I'm doing the text export, so moving data between computers becomes trivial.

Vicente,
Thanks for the quick reply. I saw on a message board somewhere that
you have a batch file that will make the database work. Can I have a
copy of this batch file for the time being (as I've populated a work
computer, and am needing it on my personal machine).

Thanks,
Geoff

Hi!

I think it was a message in EnWorld what you read. The script sadly was not working :( I was thinking it was quite an easy thing but it turned out to be very complicated. That is the main reason I am writing the text export and import, because the other way around was crazy hard :(

Vicente,
Once again, thanks for the quick reply. That's too bad about the
script. Let me ask you one more thing. Should I wait for version
1.1, or will my database transfer to the new version of the program?
I'd hate to think I wasted all this time inputting data, and will stop
now if that's the case.

Hi!

I would stop now. When I finish 1.1 I will provide an update for 1.0 to 1.1, and a 1.1 standalone version. Because of some design mistakes I did in 1.0 (that I have fixed in 1.1 at least :S), I am not 100% at this moment that the update is going to work perfectly. So you may end losing some of your data when you upgrade :(

I know this is not the best thing in the world to hear, and I am really sorry. I have taken a lot of steps in 1.1 to avoid this happening again (with the text export, it should be very safe to transfer and also to backup data so this does not happen again).

Regards!
